Max has done an outstanding job this month, letting us know when something is amiss.
He barked loudly one evening while supervising the farm from the back steps.
Kristin went to see what all the noise was about and Max's gaze directed her attention to the road where one of the cows was taking a stroll.
She managed to draw the cow back into the barnyard with some alfalfa. While the gate was being secured, the cow managed to return to the escape route and headed back toward the road.
Kristin knew she needed to run some temporary line to keep the cow from returning to her escape route, but thought she better get the cow back first.
Well, that was a mistake because before she could get the temporary line run the cow made her third escape!
Lesson learned. Run the temporary line first and then get the cow.
The line was run and Kristin, with alfalfa in hand, went to get the cow once more. Where did the cow go? Oh, she was down the road half way to the lake.
Darrin left his hay raking duties on our property east of the farm to return and help wrangle the cow back home.
If Max had not notified us, the cow would have been wading in the lake, and we wouldn't have known it.
If we could ask Max to improve on one thing, it would be to help herd the cattle. 😉
